South Tyrol is known for its hospitality and for a rich and varied cousine. There are many opportunities in order to try South Tyroleans specialties like Speck, Knödel (bread dumplings) and Strudel (a typical apple roll). The best ones, Schlutzkrapfen, Tirtlen, Bauernkrapfen and Marende, a platter of cold cuts, taste good while taking a well-deserved pause during a hike, for example on an Alm.  No Marende (Brettljause) is complete without Speck, Kaminwurzen Schüttelbrot, pickles, red wine and zest for life, that everyone enjoy when there is a comfortable company.
